Vermont Biographies

Introduction

It is important to know the people from Vermont’s past who helped create and fight for the state.

Ethan Allen helped fight for Vermont to become a state and defended the borders as a Green Mountain Boy.

Samuel de Champlain was an explorer from France who discovered lake Champlain. His discovery helped Vermont’s economy by opening up a new fur trade route.

Purpose and Rationale

Vermont was discovered and defended by several people from the past. It is the home of many towns, landmarks, and historical events. Using the resources below, you will tour the state yourself and learn about the history of Vermont and its important people.

The purpose of this assignment is for you to learn about Vermont biographies by researching specific websites and familiarize yourself with the internet.

In addition, you will develop your skills with PowerPoint and the internet.

Task

The purpose of this task is for you to learn more information and become familiar with the history of Vermont and specific historical figures Ethan Allen and Samuel de Champlain.

This is the official Ethan Allen Homestead museum website. If you click on the history link it will give you information on Who Ethan Allen was, a timeline, the history of the homestead, and information on the Green Mountain Boys.

Process

•You will click on different sites and record information on provided index cards (to keep).

•You will choose three facts to type and save to be printed on our fact wall.

•You may choose to save a picture and write a blurb of information underneath to be on our fact wall.

•Make sure to look for interesting facts you did not already know.

Guidance

I will be in the computer lab to help guide you through the websites. I will help you read and understand what information is important and should be recorded and what is not.

Rubric

1.To earn a one: student has shown they were not on task, does not have facts written on index cards, and is unable to present in front of class.

2.To earn a two: student was on task but needed a friendly reminder, has one or two facts recorded on index cards, presents but is unable to answer questions.

3.To earn a three: student is on task, student has three facts, student presents information clearly.

4.To earn a four: student is on task, student writes more than three facts, student presents information clearly and is able to answer questions and go above and beyond.

Conclusion

Each of you will present your information to the class.

You will need to tell the class where you found it and why you thought it was important.

You will have to answer questions from classmates.

You will type and print your information to be posted on our fact wall.
